Many people who visit Rancho Mirage do so for the art. This warm, sunny town is a haven for artists of all different sorts, including media artists as well as singers and songwriters. To go to the city without enjoying some of the Rancho Mirage art would almost be a crime.
Before you go to this city, either to relocate or on a vacation, it can be a good idea to check out the public library’s website at www.RanchoMirageLibrary.org, since it often plays host to the exhibits of local artists. There are often events at the library, as well, featuring local and international writers, singers, and more. You can find out more about these exhibitions and events by calling the library, but there is a fairly extensive list of the current happenings online, as well.
One event that is not to be missed in the city is the annual Art Affaire, which is held late in the fall to kick off the beginning of the heaviest tourist season. At this event, local artists rent booths where they can sell their artworks; artists of all different types, styles, and mediums are represented, so you can find just about anything you want or need here. Also, many interesting singers and speakers are invited to this two-day festival to entertain and amaze the art-loving crowd.
Most of the Rancho Mirage art galleries are located in the El Paseo shopping district in nearby Palm Desert, but you will find some smaller galleries and local artists in Rancho Mirage, as well. Those who are really dedicated to sniffing out the best art in the area, though, should drive over to El Paseo to visit Imago Galleries, a huge exhibition for local and national artists. The Palm Springs Art Museum is also a quick drive from Rancho Mirage.
